Wear-resistant steel type wear-resistant steel use method

July 09, 2021

Wear-resistant steel is widely used in machinery manufacturing, mainly in the selection of mechanical parts materials, balls of steel mills, liners, bucket teeth of excavators, buckets, rolling walls, tooth plates, and hammerheads of various crushers. , track shoes for tractors and tanks, blow plates for fan mills, railroad frogs, middle slot middle plates for coal mine scraper conveyors, kerbs, ring chains, bulldozer blades, shovel teeth, large electric wheel cars Bucket linings, oil and open-cut iron ore punch bits, etc. The following small series for everyone to introduce the types of wear-resistant steel and wear-resistant steel use.

Wear-resistant steel types

1, high manganese steel

The as-cast microstructure of high-manganese steel is usually composed of austenite, carbide and pearlite, and sometimes contains a small amount of phosphorus eutectic. When the amount of carbides is large, it often appears as a network on the grain boundary. Therefore, the as-cast microstructure of high-manganese steel is brittle and unusable, requiring solution treatment. The commonly used heat treatment method is solution treatment, that is, the steel is heated to 1050 to 1100 DEG C., the heat is removed to eliminate the as-cast microstructure, a single-phase austenite structure is obtained, and then the water is quenched to maintain the structure at normal temperature. After heat treatment, the strength, plasticity and toughness of the steel are greatly improved.

2, medium and low alloy wear-resistant steel

This type of steel has a high hardness (Brinell hardness up to HB500) and is weldable. Rolling methods are commonly used to make such steel steel or steel and then welded into components. Low-alloy steel used under conditions of wear as the primary failure mode. It is mainly divided into low-alloy welding wear-resistant steel, low-alloy wear-resistant steel for construction machinery parts, and low-alloy wear-resistant steel for agricultural machinery.

3, chromium molybdenum silicon manganese steel

Silicon-manganese alloy is an alloy composed of manganese, silicon, iron, and a small amount of carbon and other elements. It is a ferroalloy with a wide range of uses and large output. Silicon-manganese alloy is a compound deoxidizer commonly used for steelmaking, and it is a reducing agent for production of manganese metal by production of low-carbon ferromanganese and electric silicon thermal methods. Silicon-manganese alloys can be smelted in continuous operation in large, medium and small submerged arc furnaces.

4, special wear-resistant steel

The type of steel used under specific conditions such as impact wear, corrosion wear, high temperature erosion wear, etc.

Wear-resistant steel use

1. Cutting: Plasma cutting, carbon arc, and abrasive wheel saw can be used to cut large-area multi-layer steel plates into required shapes. The best way is to use air or inert gas plasma arc cutting, the recommended method is to start cutting from the alloy surface. Carbon arc cutting should start cutting from one side of the substrate. If a saw blade is used, only linear cutting is possible and a silicon carbide blade is required.

2. Bending: The wear-resistant steel plate can be cold-formed and bent into a desired shape, arc or circle as required. Concave formation, alloy cracks will be closed due to the inward stress; convex shape, the crack will become larger and cracking, which is the normal scene. If the crack is too large, use the corresponding electrode for repair. Roll into tube and follow the recommended minimum bend radius.

3, open hole: large holes can be used plasma cutting, small holes recommended EDM machine. Counterbore holes for mounting bolts can be plasma or carbon arc cut.

4. Welding: The base metal of the large-area composite steel plate is a steel plate with good weldability. When two steel plates are required for splicing, the base metal of the back surface can be welded together, and then the front welding layer can be filled with the corresponding surfacing electrode. Flat fill. Wear-resistant steel plates can also be welded to other steel structures.

5, plug welding: plasma or carbon arc gouging can be used to open holes in the wear-resistant steel plate, and other steel structures connected by plug welding.

6. Bolt fixing: The bolt can be welded to the base material of the steel plate by means of flash welding or melting welding, and then connected with other workpieces, or holes can be made in the abrasion resistant steel plate to be connected with other workpieces through bolts;

7, surface processing: wear-resistant steel plate shows no processing, if you need to process, can only be grinding, other conventional methods do not apply. Wear-resistant steel plate is not suitable for occasions with high surface accuracy requirements.

Wear-resistant steel applications

Wear-resistant steel is widely used in mining machinery, coal mining and transportation, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, building materials, electrical machinery, railway transportation and other departments. For example, balls of ball mills, liners, bucket teeth of excavators, buckets, rolling walls of various crushers, tooth plates, hammers, track shoes of tractors and tanks, blow plates of fan mills, railways Fork, middle slot middle plate, slot gang, ring chain for coal mine scraper conveyor, blade for bulldozer, shovel teeth, lining plate for large electric wheelbowl bucket, cone drill bit for perforation of oil and open-pit iron ore, etc. The above list is mainly limited to the application of wear-resistant steels that are subject to abrasive wear. In all kinds of machines, when there are relatively moving workpieces, all kinds of wear will occur, and the resistance of the workpiece materials will increase. Grinding requirements or requirements for wear-resistant steel, the examples are numerous. Grinding media (balls, rods, and liners) used in ore and cement mills are heavy steel wear parts. In the United States, most of the balls are forged or cast using carbon steel and alloy steel, which account for 97% of the total consumption of balls. In Canada, 81% of balls were consumed in grinding balls. According to statistics from the end of the 1980s, China consumes about 8.0 million to 1 million tons of grinding balls each year, and the annual consumption of mill linings in the country is nearly 200,000 tons. The majority of these are steel products. The middle slot of the scraper conveyor used in coal mines in China consumes 6 to 80,000 tons of steel plates each year.
